Hardware for freenas build?

Hi, i want to build a freenas system soon, but im not sure which hardware i should use. I want to build a system with 12 hdds (6x raidz2 and i want to add another 6x raidz2 later) with 4-6 tb capacity, so i need a system where i can upgrade the ram later. I've heard the pentium g4500 is a good cpu to use, but im not sure if it would be powerfull enough. ram i would use 16-32 gb eec at the beginning and would upgrade if needed later. Im also not sure what mainboard i should chose with 12 sata...

Strange behaviour when read over NFS

Hi everone,

I have a strange problem during these days when I tried to service jpg,png,gif files from freenas to nginx(ubuntu) over NFS.

I've never tried before service chunky files like png on NFS. When I bring online our systems to serve static content from freenas, write operations occurs on disks while only reading be in question.

I did not know whats under the hood in arc calculations. Maybe last access times of files should written on disks so these write operations comes from that...

A few days ago I got an email alert from FreeNAS stating that one of the drives SMART tests could not be read. I stupidly just restarted the server hoping it would clear (which it did temporarily). Anyway, that night I was watching Plex before I fell asleep and everything was working fine. The next morning I tried to access Plex but the server was down. I had received another email alert stating, "pool I/O is currently suspended." The web UI was inaccessible, as was ssh. I hooked a...

Jumbo Frames on LAGG

I can not for the life of me get Jumbo Frames on a LAGG to be enabled.

I destroyed the LAGG. Enabled Jumbo Frames on both parent interfaces and then recreated the LAGG and rebooted. Did not enabled Jumbo Frames.
I then tried enabling Jumbo frames on the LAGG using the edit members section of the GUI, rebooted and it did not work.

The documentation does state this is possible and a restart is needed to enable .

NIC is a Chelsio 420-BT and the with is a Netgear XS716T.

I need Jumbo...

11.2 Release Schedule Delays

I'd like to start by extending my thanks to the development team and to all of the people who contribute bug reports and feature requests. FreeNAS is a great product, worthy of a lot of respect.

With that said, I have been paying attention to the release schedule from early last year, and particularly around the v11.2 releases, and, in comparison to the commercial compute/storage world in which I work, there is a real pattern of release dates being deferred on almost every version...

Помогите разобраться с сабжем.
В настройках SMB убрал "описание". Мне оно не нужно.
На клиентах с Windows XP теперь вместо того описания того что было "freenas server" теперь "SAMBA 4.7.0-GIT-EA139BFFADA-FREENAS"
Как отключить описание совсем, чтобы клиенты если и видели то только имя хоста.

Hi,
currently I have a LAGG with 6 igb attached to an HP 1920 switch.
2 nics form Supermicro X10sl7 - igb[4-5]
4 nics from a quad eth HP NC365T - igb[0-3]
Usually it's working until I shutdown the server for maintenance tasks.

As soon the server is up only the mobo nics are <ACTIVE,COLLECTING,DISTRIBUTING> while the other 4 seems down.

A simple restart fix the issue and LAGG is working as expected:

Hello,
i'm running Freenas now for more than half a year in preparation to make the migration away from Unraid.
Specs:
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1231 v3
Supermicro X10SLM-F
32GB ECC

I have 2 pools:

Mass Storage 14x4TB Raidz2
SSD Pool 3x240GB Raidz1

Boot drive 16GB USB3.0 / 64GB SSD SATA (upgraded from USB stick yesterday fresh install)
The boot drive and the SSDS are connected to the onboard SATA.
HDD pool is on a LSI HBA IT Mode

Now i migrated all my stuff over and the performance is...

Could connect to jail

Hello, I just start to set FreeNAS, and I meet some problem.

I'm using a router with dd-wrt

I just install some plugin (plex, qbittorrent, nextcloud) and I can connect internal IP
but when I try to access external, Web browser just show like this

I set port forward and check IP too
I can't understand, WHY MY CHROME SHOW TO ME FreeNAS WEB GUI??
even i set port forward to jail's IP

Recommended CPU & Motherboard for iSCSI

Okay so I got everything else ready, I need to know what CPU & Mboard you reccomend for an iSCSI setup for FreeNAS.

This machine is going to be an iSCSI target, and only an iSCSI for ESXI or whatever else wants to connect to it.

It's going to be a 30TB Raid 6, or RaidZfs2 in FreeNAS.

I need to know what CPU and Motherboard are recommended for this, I already have the RAM, and all the other parts.

I just don't want to buy the CPU and MB without knowing which is correct to get.

I've watched two 15-minute videos, I've read post after post on these forums, I think I've turned on and off every possible thing I can think of, and I cannot figure out this issue. I have several SMB shares in my only pool, and in general they're working. I can write files to the SMB shares, and I can copy files off of them. But in my "Pictures" share, when trying to move files around, I'm hitting a roadblock. Example: I have a folder "100CANON" that I want to change to "2009 Pictures"...

Help with network settings

I had some problems with plex, so I decided to reinstall it. While trying to do so, I noticed that the plugins list is not loading, and after some time I also discovered that I can't check for updates. I don't know much about networking so any help is appreciated. I initially had some dns issues, but I think that is fixed now since I can ping google.

Here is what I get when I try to check for updates:

Transmission not running script-done

Hi all,

can't seem to get the script-done to run my NzbToTorrent.py script. I have set up the jail's as described by Joshua's guide on his website. The difference being I am using the plugins, so my transmission is on a different hostname to sickrage and couchpotato.

I have chown and chmod the nzbtomedia folder and have used solutions 3 and 4 from Joshuas permission guide (changed transmission to run as media and other writable) since the scripts folder is owned by media: media.

FreeNAS disappears like it went to sleep

Good morning all. This is my first post here.

So I bought a Lenovo Thinkserver TS150, basic config (8GB RAM), running two 8TB mirrored HDs. Current version (latest stable).

The thing is, after a while without use (sometimes at the end of the day, sometimes early in the morning) my FreeNAS box will look like it went to sleep.

No computer will be able to access the shares, I can't ssh into it, and sometimes my Mikrotik router will show in the "DNS Server" page that there is no IP assigned...

При запуске VNC для отображения VM ( через отдельный клиент или через web) появляется вот такой текст .
