Update from 11.2-U4.1 -> U5 Broken

Hi Folks,

Quick question. Has anyone had issues going from 4.1 to U5? When I click the update button it just sits there for a long time and I can see a bunch of execute stuff but it appears stuck. Its at installing base OS and 62.5%. I tried it last night and deleted the boot environment to try again as I got an unexpected not clean restart when it eventually responded.

I haven't stopped the UI for the update just yet I have just left it running. I suspect it will fail again.

Cheers,

Good afternoon. I'm hoping peeps have an idea of where I can look to drill deeper into the inconsistent performance I am getting.

My Setup ->
- FreeNAS-11.2-U4.1
- CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2670 v2 @ 2.50GHz (40 cores)

X9SCM-F and 11.2-U5 Fresh Install

I just purchased some components to do my first NAS setup. I am having a really hard time with the install.

Supermicro X9SCM-F
Xeon 3.1ghz
24gb ram
2x Intel 80gb SSD
FreeNAS 11.2

I am able to install it. I select both ada0 and ada1 drives for the install (im assuming this is how to do a software raid 1). Fresh Install. BIOS setup, installs fine, reboot then infinite loops.

Since then I have tried the following:
Bios setting to "LEGACY" from UEFI/LEGACY boot.
Selecting only the hd to...

Fool-proof RAID setup for natural disaster

Hi everyone, pardon my questions if they're basic but despite my extensive searches I'm still new to Freenas and raid formats.

I am trying to achieve the perfect balance of redundancy, performance and safety in a home-enterprise environment.

My issue: the place I live in (Philippines) has risks of earthquake and other natural disasters, thus would need something I can grab and take "on the go" in case something goes wrong.

clean install of 11.2-U5 doesn't boot automatically

I just did a clean install of FreeNAS-11.2-U5 using using UEFI for the first time. The install went well, except that the system won't boot fully into Freenas. It boots to the UEFI menu(?) where I have to select "1. Boot Freenas [Enter]" by pressing "1" or "Enter" every time. If I don't do anything it will just sit there seemingly forever.

How can I configure that page to automatically boot into the previous boot env?

Hey guys, was moving my server between houses and snapped my flash drive in half. I just installed 11.2-U4 and transferred all my files over to it. What is the best way to recover my system?

11.1-U5 Laundry Memory over 10G

I thought I had the issue with swap growth licked after making some adjustments but now the main processes seem to be eating tons of memory for no reason (it seems to be happening when the system is idle).

Check this:

Why is the GUI webserver eating so much swap?

And 10Gigs of Laundry? Is this normal? I'm not doing anything that weird on this machine... running plex and resilio sync to backup my stuff.

Backup data of 2 Freenas boxes with Veeam

I currently have running 2 Freenas boxes with around 4TB data on each box. Besides that i also have esxi boxes running which a being backupped to 2 onsite backup repositories by Veeam and 1 offsite backup to tape.

I'm trying to find a solution to integrate both Freenas boxes into the Veeam backup solution. Virtualise the physical Freenas boxes could be a solution but i don't prefer to do that.

What could be a reliable solution to integrate them in the Veeam backup solution?

EDIT: He's abandoning the project, not willing to research to build/administrate a server. I, on the other hand, have decided to dive in and research something I can set up in my home. Sorry to waste your time.

So my friend is currently in a situation in which his access to the internet is limited. He's asked for my help to relay him information so him, and his coworkers, can set up a local network media streaming server. They're looking into being able to stream 1080p to 8 people...

SYNCHRONIZE CACHE command timeout error

Hi folks,

So I'm in the process of doing a major storage upgrade on my FreeNAS 9.10.2-U4 box (see sig link for full specs), slowly transitioning from 8x4TB to 8x10TB (RAIDZ2). I've swapped out 2 disks so far, da0 and da1, with no issues and successful resilvers. I was planning to swap out a 3rd disk this evening but when I pulled up my IPMI console getting ready to shut down I spotted this error on da0, which is one of the new 10TB drives (Seagate Ironwolf ST10000VN0004). I've grepped my...

First some caveats. This is not a definitive guide. I am well aware that there are multiple methods of running Docker on RancherOS. This is what worked for me. I have thoroughly tested my system, and I am confident I have worked out all the gotchas (with Linux/FreeBSD there are ALWAYS gotchas), and got a smooth running setup. This guide is written with the understanding that you're not a complete NOOB, but I have tried to make the language as noob-friendly and easy to follow as I can. My...

SMART data; HBA/JBOD mode vs RAID mode w bunch of R0 arrays

Doing some testing with FreeNAS on my new server, I have a 3108 Controller (as well as a 3008 onboard). 3109 does JBOD mode as well as RAID mode. Tested with JBOD mode, SMART reporting works as it should; FreeNAS can see the disks exactly as they are. Placed it in RAID mode, made a bunch of R0 arrays. It's a LOT quicker. But, running smartctl reports information missing. Also of mention, I opted for the super-capacitor for the 3108, so it's cache is non-volatile..

All that said to ask...

Hi,

I'm curently builind a storage solution for home. I decided to try FreeNAS. After beeing able to install, setup and configure everything, I started to copy my file from temporary storage to my FreeNAS. Very surprised, I got poor copy performances. During the transfer, the copy seems to stuck on big files, loosing connection and have to restart/retry the copy. Windiws estimated speed fall from 110Mb/s to 0 and keep doing nothing and ..... error ..

I read on the forum to see that many...

Hey,
I have a AVAGO 3108 MegaRAID controller, in JBOD mode.

I have attached 3 new drives, but they don't show up, as new drives, in FreeNAS.
I belive its because of the way the adapter works, that is has to MARK each drive as JBOD.

When using StorCLI, // - storcli /cx show all
Then I get all settings n such, and I get the drive list.
This is the exiting part :

Code:
