I'm brand new here and brand new to FreeNas.

I've had to replace my old NAS and decided to turn another system into a replacement NAS.

I'm not a *nix guy, but I am am a Cisco guy and I've been in IT for a very, very long time and can generally accomplish what I want.

Outside of that, I'm a gamer (TTRPG's and computer games), rescue feral and abandoned cats and general Geek.

Nice to meet everyone and yep, I did register because I ran into a problem I couldn't...

Trying to move dataset from one pool to another

I'm trying to move a dataset from Pool1 to Pool2. I made a recursive snapshot of the dataset in Pool1. Then I used the following command to send it to Pool2:

zfs send -Rv Pool1/"Calibre Library"@migrate | zfs recv -Fdus Pool2

I get a dataset Calibre Library in Pool2, but whenever I try to access it (such as with the ls command), it is empty. There is no data in it. What am I doing wrong?

C2550 died, need to replace

So my C2550D4I mobo just died, and I'm once again contemplating upgrading my whole setup again. Here's what I currently have:

Mobo: C2550D4I
Case: Silverstone DS380B
RAM: 32GB ECC
PSU: 450W
Controller: IBM 1015 IT

The prices and selections of mini-ITX boards are not great although there are a couple to choose from. I love the form factor of this build when I don't have to open it up to do any maintenance, but as soon as I do, I really dislike it.

FreeNAS 11.2 Network Info on Dashboard

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I have a question about the dashboard. How do you change the NIC info? By default it selects the primary NIC and shows you the info for that NIC. How do I change it my NIC(s) that are directly connected to my ESXi server which are 100 times more important than my primary NIC and have it remain there everything I log into my FreeNAS?

DEGRADED pool for 3 minutes! What's up with that?

Probably should order a new HD so when it degrades for over 10 minutes..... or so. ;-) At least it's a RAIDZ2 vdev.

Can't Replace a Drive in a Pool, Error - [eservicestartfailure]

I'm attempting to replace a questionable drive in a pool and am having trouble. From Pool Status if I select the questionable drive and attempt to Replace it and get an error message - [eservicestartfailure] and it won't let me replace the drive. I get the same failure message if I take the drive Offline first and then try to add the new drive. I ended up reattaching the original questionable drive and the pool is Healthy....... for now.

I just when through this process a few days ago on...

New Drives Not Visible

I recently shucked 4 new 10TB drives to add to my server. I am only able to see one of these in the GUI and also in the CLI. Any tips on how to help diagnose? I have tried different bays in my supermicro case but no difference. This is the model of the one drive that is visible: <ATA WDC WD10EFRX-68F 0A82>. The other 3 drives are the same model.
Also see the attached photo - this is from the LSI card during boot. It is only seeing one drive.

Unable to Access Web Interface

I recently upgraded my FreeNAS system with a SSD boot drive rather than USB stick. Initially, I was able to access the web interface, but now I can't, and I haven't been able to figure out why.

The Freenas system shows in my router at the intended IP. FreeNAS states that the web interface is at the intended IP, and ifconfig confirms that the NIC is working.

What else should I be checking? The connection times out when I try to access web interface. I've tried a few different devices on my...

Hello, i'm new to freenas and bsd but i love it already.
I don't know if this is possible but i want to run vnstat + phpfrontend in the root install. Has this been done before ? any guides ?

if i create a jail for this could i still monitor other jails nics (i'm pretty sure not and thus the reason to install in root install.)

Most silent 12TB HDD (helium filled)

Hi,

So far I wasn't able to find anywhere on the internet a decent noise comparison between 12TB (or larger) HDDs. I already know that helium filled HDDs are quite silent @ idle (and that is also the only specification that that most brands officially list), but I'd like to know which HDDs are the most silent @ load or which have the least annoying sounds with random access.
As far as I understand, it is a bit of a choice that needs to be made in the firmware between more aggressive and...

Hi,

I'm sorry if, I'm in the wrong category.

I've just set up many fib (3). I'm going to explain my configuration.
1 pfsense (3vlans, 101, 102, 103) > Freenas (lacp, vlan 101, 102, 103)

I set up :
vlan101(mgmt) fib0 : 10.1.0.0/24, bound GUI, ssh, defaut gateway 10.1.0.254
vlan102(user) fib1 : 10.2.0.0/24, bound SMB, defaut gateway 10.2.0.254
vlan103(DMZ) fib2 : 10.3.0.0/24, bound jails, defaut gateway 10.3.0.254

My issue, is when I used smb. If, I am in other network 10.1 or 10.3...

Redundant SLOG device?

Hi,

I've got a question about SLOG. I'm not sure if it has to be redundant. What I've read so far says, that it does not need to be redundant because if device fails, the ZIL just goes to the pool where it would be without SLOG anyways.
OK, but I never had a completely failing SSD so far. If I had a failing SSD it just resulted in corrupted file systems (ext4 or XFS) because apparantly corrupted data got written to the disk. If this happens to my SLOG, what is the result? Is data on SLOG...

Sharing without formatting volume

Hi everyone !
This question sure has been discussed, but I haven't find anything rescent about it
I have some external drives I want to share through my FreeNAS server, and these drives has a lot of files already. Is there a way to share it without formatting it to ZFS (and so - having to move all files somewhere and back) ?
I know ZFS is cool, but having to move couple terabytes around - not so :)

Qbittorrent won't delete folder with files inside from GUI - log error attached

Hello

Guys I need small hint.
I am using qbittorent-nox and yesterday I wanted to remove some movies from download folder.
After clicking in GUI delete button qbittorrent removed torrent from list but ina qbittorrent log is this:

(C) 2019-07-24T15:25:53 - 'Glass' was removed from the transfer list but the files couldn't be deleted. Error: Directory not empty

for 6x 10 TB RAID-Z2 system does it still matter:
* if I buy 512e or 4Kn drives? The 512e drives are usually cheaper and better available.
* if I buy SATA or SAS disks?

I installed qbittorrent plugin, but when i try to search something in search engine, plugins are not installed.
Tried to install some unofficial seach plugin, but didnt get any error message and aren't installed.

Any ideas?

(Wasn't sure if this should be in the Development section, I'm on the Nightlies so this option may not apply in the released version)

I've noticed that during plugin creation that the NAT option is selected by default. This is all fine and dandy, as everything *seems* to be working (with respect to the actual jail still having access to the Internet), and it gets an IP address 172.16.0.X.

My problem/question is this: Normally things under NAT (if they're expected to be accessible outside...

Windows SMB sharing only work with guest access

Hi, I'm trying to share a number of folders via Window SMB sharing. I was able to setup a guest folder sharing, which does not required any login. However, I wasn't able to limit the NV_User folder to only a user can access (in this case is test1 which required a password), I can access the NV_User folder if I enable guest access in sharing setting. Can some one help me with this?
My setting is as bellow:
