Jail mount point charset

I'm trying to use mount points to access 2 FreeNAS SMB shares in my deluge jail. I can mount them just fine by adding them at the mount point page in the GUI, but the issue is that the mounted shares don't display characters like é, å, ü etc. correctly in file names. I've had this issue before, and it has been resolved by using UTF-8 as the charset during the mount. However, since I'm doing it through the GUI I get no options for that. I managed to track down an fstab file residing within...

G'day y'all!

I'm Hannah, from Germany. I recently decided to build a server system for my company BuckiTech, and decided on FreeNAS. Great looking UI, ease of use, and - free.
As I have some problems with the configuration I've decided upon registering on the Forum to ask about help.

Hello,

I started to have some problems with cloud credentials for a OneDrive personal account after upgrading to 11.2-U5. The problem is that the settings for Drive Account Type as "PERSONAL" in Cloud Credentials is not saved and hence each time rclone is trying to make a sync is giving the error below:

SSH connections sometimes dropped/laggy on 11.2-U5

Hi everybody,

after several attempts (and rollbacks) I gave it another shot to update from 11.1-U7 to 11.2-U5 yesterday. My first attempt was with 11.1-U6.3 to 11.2-U1, which did not work "out-of-the-box" as it introduced "slow" networking/lags within the GUI and via SSH and non-working VNET iocage jails. At that time I did not have the time to debug the issues, therefore I simply rolled back to 11.1, where everything works smoothly.

What I could remedy for now with regard to the "slow"...

Replacing A Failed Single Drive With A Larger Hard Disk

Hi,

I would appreciate comments/confirmation relative to replacing a failed single drive with larger hard disk.

I am running FreeNAS-11.2-U5 on a Dell T20 with four 3TB WD Red drives in a raidz2 configuration. Last night, I received an alert saying that my main pool’s state was degraded and one drive had been removed by the administrator.

I pulled that disk this morning and the Western Digital diagnostics found the drive has lot of bad sectors. Unfortunately, it is 4 months past the...

How Dangerous are High Load Cycle Counts?

Hi everyone,
I've had a couple sleepless nights, so I'm hoping to get some clarity...
A couple of days ago, my FreeNAS pool went into a degraded state. Looking at zpool status, one disk showed that it was removed and several had "too many errors." These were all in the oldest vdevs of my system, plus they were all on the chassis backplane (Rosewill) as opposed to the DS4243s the newer disks are sitting in. Long story short, I narrowed it down to the backplane and moved the disks to spare...

I've been messing with Freenas on and off for almost a year. After going down the Inverted triangle of doom - I shy'ed away from a glusterfs 2 node replica +arbiter - (The cost just wasn't justified with doing massive duplication efforts, which was just plain stupid for home lab).

I was 95% settled into a Primary & Backup Freenas - 2x HP DL380 G8 - Optane 900 Slog, 12x 4TB Ironwolf. - I could get 500MB/S to 600MB/S up/down - and with the slog for my VM's - the numbers were even better with...

Virtualized FreeNAS and Choice of CPU

Hi all,

I have been using FreeNAS as a TimeMachine target machine for a while and it works fine.
The server is a HP MicroServer G7 with 16GB ECC RAM and 4x500GB drives running RAIDZ2.

The experience has been good but I have to expand a little bit.

I would like to have a backup server (or maybe turning the MicroServer into one) but I am a bit lost in terms of what configuration to use.

I currently have a SuperMicro X9DRD-7LN4F-JBOD which, if not mistaken, target the Storage Market...

Bonjour,

The goal of this build was firstly to provide a strong 6-bay NAS, Plex server and offsite backup for my Primary NAS. Also, it needs to run ESXi in a performant manner, and will host Windows, OSX, Linux guests, as well as a pfSense gateway. The ESXi installation was the pilot project for an ESXi upgrade I am planning for the Primary NAS.

The Supermicro X10SDV-TLN4F is a Xeon D 1541...

SMB share not accessable from android device (works from PC)

I'm having a bit of a struggle setting up accessibility of my storage.

I have set up an SMB share that is perfectly accessible from my windows PC, yet all of my android devices seem to fail. They can see the NAS sitting on the network, but as soon as I attempt to access it, it throws a user/pass request at me. I've tried root and the user assigned to the share, neither are letting me pass. To clarify, its not the share that's blocking it, I can't even get through the door to get to those...

snapshots of a win10 vm while it's hibernated

Is this a bad idea?

I have a windows vm that I want to backup regularly and fr searching the internet it looks like most people are setting up scripts to shutdown, wait and confirm , then snapshot and start their vms

I am very bad with scripts and have little experience but I will start copy pasting stuff if I need to but before I did I thought it might be viable to just have the vm sleep or hibernate before the snapshot then wake it

Will this ruin my day?

Hi!

Of course that I try to avoid Plex transcoding at all costs, but sometimes it happens, and every time it happens, my CPU goes high... and get really hot. So hot that the motherboard starts to screaming (and beeps) until I stop the streaming. The temperatures goes to around 100 Celsius/212 Fahrenheit.

By the way, I tried to convert a VIDEO_TS/*.VOB files into an MKV using ffmpeg, but I was forced to stop the process one minute later because of this same behavior...

I just installed another FreeNAS server in my rack (specs below, and I have one running already), when trying to access the Web GUI I get the following message (an image is also attached).

Now I've poked around a bit and everything I've found talks about the IP address changing, older beta builds, config changes or some other networking error. This is a fresh install (several times...

11.2 series won't boot after install or upgrade

Hi,

I hosed my system by upgrading it. I've been running freenas on the same HW for sereral years. Just changed the usb sticks once a year as they get broken. But now I couldn't boot after update to 11.2U1. I have now done several re-installs today to get to the roots of it. It seems 11.1 series installs and boots fine, but if I upgrade to 11.2U1, it won't boot. Neither will it boot after clean install. The bootloader just doesn't work. I loose the first character in my monitor, but it...
