How to access other users' folders?

My own user account on the NAS is used like the secondary root or something. It would be very useful for me if I could see other users' folders to check the state of the automated backups.
(it's family server, nothing work related or anything)

Is it doable somehow?

How to install SABnzbd in iocage jail and change permission to write to Freenas Pool owned by other user.

First time writing something up like this so forgive how poorly written and organized. I have been struggling getting a news reader off warden into iocage and to be fully functional. This seems to have done it.

This version is a lot different than the old warden plugin. I think the issues were mostly:
  • Can't get to web gui unless you edit .ini
  • Different user group ID than 816 than legacy version
  • Mount points I had to do 1 to 1. On old version i got away with just...

Is there anything specific I need to do?

Strange daily security run error: ctl_datamove aborted

I'm getting occasional messages in my daily security run email, and I'm having trouble deciphering them--either my Google-fu is weak, or there just isn't much out there on this. Here's the last one I got a couple of days ago:
Code:
ctl_datamove: tag 0x10000037 on (0:3:1) aborted
ctl_datamove: tag 0x10000075 on (0:3:1) aborted

Write caching

I have freshly built freenass server with 12x10TB array WB Gold drives, running on EPYC CPU, 128GB ram. With 40Gbs networking link for storage access.

Raid configuration is raidz-3. Read performance is where it is expected to be and writes are where they are expected - pretty low around 280Mbps

I want to boost write performance, as much as possible, and typical solution is to add non volatile fast caching drive to hold the data until it is written to disk
I have quad nvme pcie card with...

G'day y'all!

I'm Hannah, from Germany. I recently decided to build a server system for my company BuckiTech, and decided on FreeNAS. Great looking UI, ease of use, and - free.
As I have some problems with the configuration I've decided upon registering on the Forum to ask about help.

System Components (Avocado): Im bad at naming stuff lol
  • CPU: 2x Intel Xeon X5670
  • Cooling: 2x Supermicro SNK-P0040AP4

Changing Boot Drive

Good Afternoon all. A noob Question for you. I have read through previous posts and sort of read the docs, so I *think* I have got the procedure right but I would much rather check before screwing the whole thing up.

I have a 60gb Kingston ssdNOW drive sitting in the draw doing nothing so I thought it would be better used as the boot drive in my NAS. From my (very bad) memory the current one is a nameless 16gb drive I picked up somewhere.

If I have this correct the procedure is:-

1) Save...

Replacing A Failed Single Drive With A Larger Hard Disk

Hi,

I would appreciate comments/confirmation relative to replacing a failed single drive with larger hard disk.

I am running FreeNAS-11.2-U5 on a Dell T20 with four 3TB WD Red drives in a raidz2 configuration. Last night, I received an alert saying that my main pool’s state was degraded and one drive had been removed by the administrator.

I pulled that disk this morning and the Western Digital diagnostics found the drive has lot of bad sectors. Unfortunately, it is 4 months past the...

HELP!?! Use LSI 9211-8i with Supermicro X11SCL-F

Hi, this is my first server build.

My hardware:
CPU: Intel Xeon E-2172
RAM: 32 GB Samsung REG 2666
MB: Supermicro X11SCL-F
HBA: LSI MegaRAID 9211-8i SAS
HDD: 6 x WD Red Nas 4TB
SSD: 1 x Intel 80GB

The LSI card was given to me and should already be in IT mode.

I checked that the MB BIOS was the most recent, which it is.

The LSI card sits in the PCI-E x8 (in x16) slot

I don't know what BIOS settings to change, I think I've tried the most common things, like changing from Legacy to EFI and...

Reporting on 11.2 broken

We have two production servers, both upgraded recently to 11.2-U1. Today I noticed that reporting on the main system is completely broken (no graphs whatsoever). On the hot standby system, the default graphs work but the whole UI hangs when I try to select additional metrics. The additional metric does eventually come up but it's blank. Anyone else seeing this?

PowerEdge T20, New ECC Ram causing crash

I recently upgraded the ram in my PowerEdge T20 32 GB of ECC RAM.

With the stick that the server came with (4GB) the system is completely stable, but after installing the ram, I see frequent system reboots. The reboots happen with FreeNAS as well as a few other linux distros that I have tried.

I tried each ram stick individually in the hopes to isolate one and the reboots happen with all of the new sticks. With the old stick, the system is completely stable.

The reboots can happen...

Hallo zusammen,

I've pretty much secured funding for my project and am in the configuration stage. But before I pull the trigger I thought I'd run it by you all to see a) if what I am building will work, and b) if there are any suggestions.

My goal (besides building something I can show off and impress my friends who don't have a server ;) ) is to build a server that will last at least 5 years, hold all the stuff that is ready to go on it, and be expandable enough to add more drives and other software as...

Need help setting up SMART & ZFS Scrubs

Hello everyone!

I need some help setting up ZFS Scrubs and SMART. I have read the documentation for both, but I don't fully understand how to best setup and schedule these two.

I have a HP Proliant Microserver N54L running two WD Red 3TB in a mirror, which has been going strong for about a month now. Pretty easy workload for the NAS, small environment with 4-5 users and mostly 1-2 actually using the NAS at once. However, there's not a lot of downtime where it's okay for the NAS to be...

I am planning to use FreeNAS with three drives:

1 x SSD
2 x 7200 RPM mechanical drives

Is it possible to have the second mechanical drive provide a mirror backup of the first with FreeNAS? Do I need a separate app for this or can I just do it with FreeNAS?

Howto setup network correctly

Hi Forum
Just thinking about changing from normal Debian Samba to Freenas.
I have a HPE Proliant - where i have a native NIC onboard and 2 PCIe NICS.
So here's my plan
Native NICS:
Administration interface --> vlan10 --> 172,16,10.11/24 --> Static IP
This should be the only interface to administrate the Freenas
PCIe NICS
Share Interface --> setup as link aggression - LACP - -> vlan20 --> 172.16.20.50/24 --> DHCP (static lease)
This should be the NIC to access any share on the...

Rsync task from FreeNAS to QNAP

Hello,

I am trying to run a backup task using Rsync from my FreeNAS server to our QNAP server.
I have enabled the rsync server on the QNAP and set up a rsync user account to have the write permissions on the QNAP server. That seems to be pretty straight forward.

On the FreeNAS side (11.2 U5) I have created the rsync user that I will be using, giving it access to the dataset I need to back up and then set up an rsync task.
I've followed the guide online for that.
My task looks like that...

Hi new member from the UK

I’m building a my Nas from an old pc that I upgraded into a gaming pc from about 10 years ago. Since then Iv been into laptops and not been pc gaming. I am now into video editing for my small car YouTube channel and the 256gb ssd on my MacBook Pro sucks, AHCI ssd’s are expensive and external drives are a pain! So Freenas made from my old pc seams the cheapest and best option
