Will my first build FreeNAS?

Hi everyone,

I'm having problems with my current "storage solution", which is a cheap raid5 chassis with 4x 3TB WD Red HDDs. During PrimeDay I bought some new blurays but copying them onto the storage kind of damaged the file system. After what I've read online, I may have hit an unresolved bug in the ext4 file system, but anyway. Since this is not the first time I have problems with this solution (I already lost all my data once, but the important data was backed up), I decided it's time...

Nas4free zfs raid to Freenas

Hi

My old nas4free box is getting slow, and it's such an old build that upgrading to xigmanas is apparently not recommended.

So, I thought, I'll upgrade my PC and use the bits to build a new Freenas box (i5-4570, 8GB)

The problem I have is that I have 3TB of data that I'd rather not lose. This is on a raidz1, 4 x 2tb drives, and I don't have anywhere near enough space elsewhere to put it while I build the new nas.

After I've got the freenas box up and running, would it be possible to...

Hi

I have just built a freenas box using the parts left over from a PC upgrade and it seems to workm however I am struggling with a basic requirement, I am not very technical so I'll do my best to explain.

I have set up a couple of shares and I can map a network drive to them from a pc so I know they exist, however, I cannot write data to them from my pc.

I realize this will be user privileges thing and I dabbled with making a guest user and adding write privileges and then assigned that...

JumpCloud LDAP Authentication Issue

Hey all,

I'm having an issue with trying to get JumpCloud LDAP to propagate users and groups for account access and SMB home directory generation.

I've read and utilized the instructions from JumpCloud (JC) to allow the account to login.
I'm fairly certain FreeNAS (FN) is able to access my JC account, as the SMB service is able to start and function. I was also...

@ the jail & bhyve section nobody has an answer...

Does anybody has a bhyve vm up and running which uses an host vlan interface?

like:
eth0 (untagged, vm) -> tap1 (host) -> bridge1 (host) -> vlan25 (host, tagged, bridge1-member) -> lagg0 (host, link aggregation) -> cisco switch - other system(s)

When I give vlan25 an IP address, I can ping from the host the VM as well as the systems in vlan25 somewhere in the network.
From the VMI can ping just the host.

any idea where to search...

Is there a guide somewhere on how to bind my FreeNAS server to Azure AD? I'm pretty savvy with LDAP and AD and I have bound FreeNAS to a local AD domain controller before.

Hallo Community,
i have installed freenas (11.2-U5), and it was very easy!
Good Work!

But after switching to the web-frontend, i can't configure something,
because after 1 minute my auth token expired and i had to login again, and again, and again...!

I saw, it is a bug (https://redmine.ixsystems.com/issues/76990 ) and fixed in 11.3.-BETA1!

What's wrong with my installation?

LUN reached a thin provisioning warning

I continue to get this error on my Xenservers on a newly provsioned 500GB LUN. I have thin provisioning enabled and have checked the VAAI option. I've tried setting it to 5%, 95% and leaving it blank, I still get the error. Running 11.2 U4.1

There's plenty of free space, I have 2 volume groups and it does this for LUNs on both of them.

VLAN Interface for a VM

Has anybody found out how to create a VLAN interface for a VM?
What I've done:
  1. Created a link aggregation (lagg0)
This interface is working well for freenas itself and a VM
  2. Created a VLAN interface (vlan25) with parent lagg0 und vlan ID 25
  3. Added this interface to a VM configuration
Unfortunately I can't reach other systems within VLAN 25
Any ideas?

After upgrading from FreeNAS-9.10.2-U6 (561f0d7a1) to FreeNAS-11.1-U7, I've lost a pool, with 4 disks being marked as UNAVAIL (or more precisely 4 out of 6 disks in a Z1 vdev).

In the GUI, I get this message:

Update from 11-STABLE to 11.2-STABLE created some confusion with disks

I had been running a FreeNAS 11-STABLE system for a while. While trying to update my Plex Media Server jail, I discovered that the new package requires 11.2 or newer (something about libdl.so.1).

After going to the System -> Update and selected 11.2-STABLE, clicked the buttons to check for updates and then installed. The update took about an hour total after that.

When it came back up, I noticed that one of my pools was showing to be invalid. This particular pool is not important and it...

I noticed today a mention to probably not run jails inside a virtualised FreeNAS.

What are the problems that I'd be likely to encounter? currently only have have @danb35 's Heimball jail but i'm planning to move plex/transmition/nextcloud/etc into the vm'd FreeNAS

IBM x3650 m3
dual xeon x5650
92 GB ram
mix of sas and sata drives on an ibm m1015 in it mode passed through to Freenas

Virtual maching on different subnet have no network access

I have a old FreeBSD server with bhyve hosts, and my virtual machines are on different networks via one network interface (RE0). In my switch I have two VLAN's configured. This setup works today, with no problem. The network port in switch where my server is connected allow vlan 1 and 2.

My new setup on other hardware with FreeNAS is almost the same, two or more virtual machines and one NIC in server. One of the virtual machine is on the other subnet, usning virtio NIC setup in FreeNAS, and...

nvidia driver installation (NVENC)

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with this, or if it's something that may be added in the future?

I run an Emby server on my box, which can take advantage of hardware transcoding. The pkg is technically available, but can't be installed through the jail, as it's a kernel module. I can install it from the system shell (and even tried, in frustration), but receive an error of "link_elf_obj: symbol sc_get_softc undefined", which looks like a bug patched in 2017.

Hey everyone,
i just realize really weird behaviour of my samba shares to different OS.

On my Odroid C2 (something like a RasPi) is running LibreElec with KODI. Last night i copied new content to my homeserver-share, to access it by SMB on my Kodi.
But the Odroid Libreelec / KODI is showing in the file-manager only 2418 files, instead of in total 2530 files, which definately exist in the folder on my FreeNAS machine ( In short: In Folder X exist 2530 subfolders, Kodi says there exist only...

Hello,

I started to have some problems with cloud credentials for a OneDrive personal account after upgrading to 11.2-U5. The problem is that the settings for Drive Account Type as "PERSONAL" in Cloud Credentials is not saved and hence each time rclone is trying to make a sync is giving the error below:
