HI

One of my boxes is reporting an error, and says I must restore from backups. Which would be problematic. (I do have backups on tape, but it's a lot ... and never had to restore directly to NAS before)

The error message is below, but this looks like it is the USB stick with FreeNas on rather than my data disks.
We're in South Africa and I've had to frequently power down and restart the box lately due to load shedding.

Can someone please confirm that it is the USB stick, and suggest...

Is FreeNAS right for me??

I am a Windows technical person that Is used to using the GUI and seldom going into the command line.

I have about 40 downstream systems that I need to support. All systems are Netgear RedadyNAS systens, They are running out of processor power and Netgear does not have any responsible solution's.

The use of a GUI is essential since the downstream systems are maintained by technically capable but not proficient individuals.

I have moused around some of the forum responses and...

Poor read speeds on multiple different systems

I have been having poor random and especially poor sequential read performance on 7 different FreeNAS systems. I will pick three to give specs/configs on to hopefully figure out what I am doing wrong! On average for sustained sequential reads of single large files 40-80MBps is what I see. If there is zero activity on the array I might see peaks to 90MBps. Writes aren't great either (compared to traditional RAID configurations I was running on these systems) but at least those will hover...

Dear community,

I'm new to freeNas due to a schoolproject where we have to install and configure a small infrastructur for a small business. All the servers are virtualised.
So far I've got a pfSense (Firewall), Linux Server for DNS, DHCP, Printing and LDAP and a Windows 7 machine which i got preinstalled.
And of course a FreeNAS up and running.

I was able to integrade LDAP (I believe). User or Groups show up when I wan't to change permissions of a the folder. Like it's written in the...

Hey all,

I've played around a bit with Freenas so i know the basics. I have a strong background in IT just not with bsd or linux (know enough to be dangerous).

I'm getting ready for my 1st legit setup and wanted to run it by everyone to check for best practices and whatnot. How would you all set this up?

Primary use ~12tb of media storage (just storage). I have a small HTPC that Plex & OTA Antenna is already installed on for processing.
Secondary use - 1-2 small linux VMs for work...

DL380e - better install freeNAS on baremetal or put ESXi in-between.

I want to build a rack box that will serve as backup platform only. I chose a DL380e platform as it comes w/ 14 x 3,5 bays, is cheap and still pretty modern. I will use flashed H310 adapter. I would like to achieve three goals: reliability, ease of management and easy of recovery in case of failure.
Which of the two would better suite my needs:
- direct bare metal Freenas installation
- Freenas over ESXi installation

Shared iSCSI connection and eSXI 6.7U3

I currently have a Synology NAS and have a shared iSCSI drive that is shared between 2 hosts. These hosts are not in a cluster. Currently it works perfectly and I can stick a VM on either host and have them on the iSCSI datastore. I can then move the VM's if the host they are on needs to be shut down.

I now have a FreeNAS 11.3RC1 setup and want to do the same thing there. I have done some searches and some posts says it is not possible for two hosts to share the same iSCSI datastore the...

Just moved across the country - can't import volume

Hey everyone,

As the title says, I just moved across the country. Finally getting my lab and computer stuff up and running, but tonight when I tried to get my FreeNAS box going, I got a bunch of error text and then when I booted in to the GUI, my volume is showing status UNKNOWN. Did a zpool import and this is what I got back:

Code:
root@guiltySpark ~]# zpool import

Disk upgrade went bad : duplicated pool?

$

Hi,
I was upgrading a RAID-Z1 pool of 3x 2 TB disks when ... I don't know. But that went bad. Probably a power issue for the disks. I had to reboot.
Then, FreeNAS reported the pool as FAILED.
I plugged back the old disk.
I tried a zfs import -fF and apparently corrected the pool, went back online, no errors, scrubbed ok, etc.

But I still can't access the content. I see the structure in the GUI (with jails, iocage, and the main dataset for the data). But everything related is not working...

I have been using the Java-based jviewer to remote control my ASRock Rack C2550D4I motherboard. It has been working fine (with some quirks) over the years.

Recently, I upgraded to macOS Catalina (currently on version 10.15.2) and since then I can launch jviewer but I get a blank / black screen and it says [0 fps] in the console.

My son is on macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave) and he can launch jviewer and it works as intended. If he and I connect at the same time, he can see my keystrokes are actually...

Is there anything like a netdata equivalent for FreeNAS?

I was recently playing around with netdata on my xcp-ng hardware (Xen hypervisor). I really liked the lived reports it would generate.
Does FreeNas have anything equivalent? The reporting tab in the gui is nice, but really isn't at the same level or detail as compared to netdata.

****Well hot dang. I answered by own question. Netdata built into freenas. Awesome.

Getting console on iocage very slow? CSH Uses lots of memory.

Hello there...

I have a iocage jail running on a FreeNAS 11.2-U3 system. The jail runs a bunch of python scripts accessing various systems using REST API's. When I try to log in to the jail using the command iocage console JAIL_NAME from the host system, it takes +60 seconds until I eventually get a prompt on the system (jail). Logging out from the jail, with the command exit also takes a VERY long time. On the FreeNAS host system, the following are the...

Enable Let's Encrypt SSL in Nextcloud on FreeNAS

First off, apologies I don't explain everything perfectly, I will try my best.
Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Prerequisites:

Must have a FQDN that points to your outside IP address, duckdns.org is a good place to start.
Test this by pinging your FQDN ("ping example.duckdns.org") from the internet and check that it resolves to your outside IP.

MUST HAVE port forwarded :80 and :443 on your router to your NextCloud jail IP.
If not cert creation will fail.

Instructions:

1. SSH...
