Hello,
I am just starting on FreeNAS and finished my first installation on my hardware today.
I do not have drives yet to install... and would like to know if I can check already that the LSI card i got is detected and seems to be fine.

Unable to edit specific users via the GUI / Save button inactive

I recently discovered that I'm unable to edit users that I've created for various jails. As you can see in the image below, the save button is inactive.

I tried changing different parameters but the button never activates.

Another aspect of my question is how do I give a new user permission to run commands or scripts?

Resilver slower than scrub and gstat report unexpected statistics

Unfortunately I did not collect any data during the specific resilver but the thing is this.

I have a pool of 4 different mirrored vdev made by two drives each. One is 2TB the ohter are 3TB drives. I replaced da7 that was in mirror with da4.

In the last week I had to perform more than one resilver of the same drive because I had to correct some lost data. This has been due to probably faulty power supply, I did not loose so much so no problem.

What I noticed is that the resilver took 36...

X11SCL-IF CPU Sizing Help

Hey guys, so i bit the bullet and decided to switch from OMV.
I have purchased an X11SCL-IF with 16GB DDR4-2666 ECC memory for it.

I need some help with CPU selection advice.
I have a U-NAS NSC400 case with a 250W PSU. It will be fully populated with 4x SATA 6 drives and an SSD internally.
It's a very tight squize already for the existing Asrock E351M board with APU, so size of heatsinking and power consumption is going to be critical i guess.

Main use is for file storage and...

Backup config file every night automatically!

I've created a cron job that will automatically backup your config every night(or whenever you want).

Here's how I did it: (the name of my zpool is tank, yours may vary so you will need to adjust the following accordingly)

I created a file on my zpool at /mnt/tank/bkpconfig.sh. It has one line:

cp /data/FreeNAS-v1.db /mnt/tank/`date +%Y%m%d`.db

Edit:

If you want the config file to append the version of FreeNAS you are using, you can...

Hardware suggestions for build

Hello,

Long time lurker and first time poster. I've been using FreeNAS for about 7 years now having built a small box for file sharing (smb, iscsi) and plex. The specs on this box are:

mobo: Intel® Desktop Board DH67CF
cpu: i3-2100
ram: 8GB
disks: 4x2GB in raidz1

I'm planning on re-purposing this system into a NVR system for some security cameras that I have. This will be an opportunity to build a new FreeNAS box.

Some requirements.

VSphere 7 SR-IOV Intel 10GB problems.

Okay, I did a search for sr-iov and did not come up with any recent helpful threads.

I have a second instance of FreeNAS running as a VM on Vsphere 7.

The configuration for the VM was initially 2 VMX3 interfaces, and a LSI card passed through. For fun, I switched from the regular pci passthrough, to dynamic pci passthrough. I disabled the virtual interfaces, and passed through 2 of the virtualized interfaces (sr-iov versions), and did the same for the LSI controller.

The LSI...

After googling for an hour and not finding a satisfactory answer, I am posting a question that must have been answered somewhere and I am just not smart enough to find it. So here I go...

I have a Windows 10 bhyve VM on a 250GB ZVOL. The VM runs of a 1 TB SSD. I would like to make daily backups of the ZVOL on a spinning drive so that I can restore it incase the SSD goes south. The content of the Windows 10 VM changes daily. I only need to keep the last ~7 daily backups. Are snapshots and...

On two 11.3-RELEASE FreeNAS systems I frequently have been getting an unresponsive web UI. When it becomes unresponsive I refresh the page and it gets stuck on "Connecting to FreeNAS ... Make sure the FreeNAS system is powered on and connected to the network." It seems to sort itself out within 5-30 minutes. It is not browser related, I am having the issue on all browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge). Rebooting fixes it, but is not ideal.

Poor SR-IOV performance

I've been using VMXNET3 for my network device and recently implemented SR-IOV. I've noticed a huge drop in performance.

Host nic is x520-DA1 connected to my switch via DAC.

Using iperf between guests on the same host with VMXNET3 I get a little over 6Gbps

Switching to SR-IOV iperf dropped to as low as 3Gbps on my windows VM and 4.8Gbps on my Ubuntu VM.

Doing a loopback test with iperf I get 40+Gbps on the host, 9.5Gbps on the windows VM and 25Gbps on the Ubuntu VM.

I've tried TSO and...

Any open source chips out there? (Besides RISC-V and such)

Since my time has increased, no commute, no leisure travel, I was thinking of following one of the open source hardware projects, but at the chip level. I already follow RISC-V, (an open source 32/64 bit CPU), which made more headway than OpenRISC in the same amount of time.

So, does anyone know of an open source chip or chip set for these functions?
  • Gigabit Ethernet, (or better)
  • SATA or SAS controller
  • USB controller
  • GPU
Their is some talk about an open source GPU...

Hi, first off, I'm new to all of this. I'm not a network guy at all. So please be gentle ;) .
Ok, I have already a FreeNAS setup as movies, photos, video, souvenirs for our family.
I have look to back up everything on cloud, but too complicated for me and don't have the money for it.

So I have an old laptop here that "maybe" I thought I could use to backup the FreeNAS once a week but off-site. So I have an external USB 10TB that could be plugged to it. So I could bring that laptop at my...

Final check - new value ECC build with Pentium G4560

Dear community

I am looking for a final review and feedback on my new FreeNAS build. It will replace my old Synology DS416 which will be demoted to a backup unit.

Usage:
  • File storage & win/mac backup for family
  • Storage of many thousands raw (~30MB each) pictures
  • VM/Container/Kubernetes Storage for my main Proxmox-Host (Dell T130 with E3-1240) which will be running all services.
So this will be a pure storage unit and I would like to keep it low cost without...

You might remember fourlynx's guide on flashing the H310 Mini Mono to IT Mode - been working with him on coming up with a similar guide for all variations of the H710 Mini as well so you no longer have to pay 4x the card price to get one crossflashed off ebay. We also cleaned up and automated a lot of the H310 mini guide into the same Live ISO: https://fohdeesha.com/docs/perc/

If this belongs better in a different section please...

FreeNAS Installation Boot Loop

Decided to switch my home server over to FreeNAS but I can't get the installer to work. I had to change around some Bios settings to get it to stop hanging immediately as it tried to boot. After finally get that worked out I thought everything was going to work because I finally got to the ascii shark splash screen. This is as far as it manages to get. Once I tell it to start, or just let the timer go, a lot of lines of console output (or whatever it is) are printed to the screen for quite a...
