If you have one of these drives in your pool please help!!!

Other 10TB drives might work but the specific hard drive model numbers I am looking for are:

Seagate Exos 10TB : ST10000NM0086-2AA101
and/or
WD Red 10TB : WD100EFAX-68LHPN0

I will post detailed instructions below but if you have either of these drives in one of your pools I am hoping you can run a dd command to copy the first 1536 bytes...

this might be a little long and may be asked before, this is my first post here so please forgive me .
I had FreeNAS 11.2 installed with a standard version of plex media server it did not have plexpass or any of the garbage that installs with it,
I could save my media to libraries and plex would download appropriate metadata for each library.
I only want to access my media from my local network, I do not want anyone/anything access to media from outside my network, I do not want streaming...

Hi all,
After spending my entire weekend on this reading posts, docs and even trying some of the freenas alternatives, I'm posting here for the first time
While I've been running Freenas for years, I consider myself as an novice user since besides upgrading the version every once in a while I haven't really done anything with it.
My setup is a HP Microserver (Gen7 N54L) with 16GB of RAM & 2 x WD red 2TB in a raid 1 setup, Freenas version is FreeNAS-11.3-U3.2 .
I only use it as my...

New Build - Dell PowerEdge T310

I've been curious about FreeNAS for a long time, but I am severely hampered by money. I recently received a Dell PowerEdge T310 server that IT was going to throw away.

I'd like to upgrade the server and install FreeNAS so I can play with it and decide if FreeNAS is something that I want to pursue.

I am not an IT specialist... or even a programmer. I'm just a guy who likes to tinker from time to time.

I have specific questions about my build. Should I include them all in this thread? Or...

Dedup Special Drive?

With the intro of the special dedup drive, does this make dedup more usable now? Less reliant on memory?

We run almost a 100 terminal servers on a storage server so we are just starting to test true nas and determine if a special meta drive makes sense or maybe start u sing dedup?

we typically run 11 mirrored vdevs, 256gb ram, mirrored zil and a 2tb l2arc with 40gb network cards....

Looking for some more speed! lol

I have two mac computers with the same users, me and my wife, the nextcloud installed on freenas with danb35 script fine, how i can use the freenas nextcloud jail files without need to download and syncronize all stuff on every computer? If i mount files inside nextcloud on freenas and i share with apf over macs and install client pointing there could be a good think or maybe it collapse all? I have aprox 100gb of photos to share inside house and outside with mobile and nextcloud.

Thanks.

I should probably not have updated, help me get my NAS back please?

Tonight I finally caved and updated from 9.10 to the latest 11.

Sigh, so she's dead. The UI (which used to be on freenas.local but now is only available on the IP) just tells me "Connecting to FreeNAS ... Make sure the FreeNAS system is powered on and connected to the network.".

SMB shares are not available. Jailed apps appear to all be down.

I can ssh, and this seems the relevant (but I wouldn't really know where else to look) thing:

Code:
root@freenas:~ # cat...

I have been learning FreeNAS since late January 2020. I purchased a used server:

"SuperMicro 4U CSE-846 24 Bay SAS2 BP X9DRi-F/2x W/ 2x E5-2620 32GB IT MODE"

To replace a dead Drobo5N. I used Unix 30 years ago, and wrote Linux device drivers 15 years ago. I'm not sure if the prior experience helped or hindered learning FreeBSD/FreeNAS or not. Either way becoming a DIY system administrator has been interesting.

I installed qBittorrent in a jail about four months ago. I recall...

Help debugging cron issue

I have a cron job set to run a very simple script that just pipes the output of a command to a file every day at noon. It will run for a month or two and then mysteriously stop running without any changes on the server at all. There is nothing in the log files ... zero. When I manually run the script from the shell it works fine, but if I use the FreeNAS web UI to manually run the job nothing happens. If I reboot it will work fine for another couple of months and then stop again. I don't...

Hey TrueOS Community! I just wanted to take a few minutes to address what some of you may have already guessed. With a heavy heart, the TrueOS Project’s core team has decided to discontinue the development of TrueOS for the foreseeable future. We’ll still be heavily involved in other Open Source projects like FreeNAS & TrueNAS CORE. We’re incredibly proud of the work we put into TrueOS and its predecessor, PC-BSD.

TrueOS source code will remain available on GitHub for others that may want...
