Migration to FreeNAS with reuse of the hardware

Hi, i want to migrate my existing NAS solution to FreeNAS. The current system is as SUPERMICRO A2SDI-4C-HLN4F with 16GB ECC Memory and 4x4TB disks where I use Linux to provide SMB, AFP, http(only to provide a install source) and run some rsync mirrors for internal use. No transcoding or virtualisation.

Target should be same hardware, disk extended to 6x4TB Raidz2 and 2x12TB mirror pool.

The 4TB disks are a mix between WD Red and Seagate Barracuda drives. If on failed i replace it with WD...

Long time lurker, first time poster who eventually set up his first FreeNAS system (11.3), ditching Windows Server.

Hello!!, I'm using pfSense inside a bhyve virtual machine managed with iohyve. This VM has two dedicated NICs that are masked to the FreeNAS host using pptdevs. The host and VM interfaces are Realtek (I know they are not the best for FreeBSD) and I would like to use the Realtek's 1.95 driver for FreeBSD. Here comes the problem:
VMM module must be loaded before if_re module to mask the two interfaces for pfSense, however web gui doesn't allow to specify the order of variables in loader.conf...

Need to set loader.conf.local variables in specific order

I'm running 11.2-U8 and trying to update to 11.3 by changing Trains via the Web GUI. I'm getting red text that says "Manifest could not be found!: Automatic update check failed. Please check system network settings."

I dug into the CLI and tried invoking an update using the freenas-update utility to get some more verbose output. This revealed that I'm getting connection timeouts to [FONT=courier...

ZoneMinder - undeleteable

Hello, i made a jail with Zoneminder, mount my "ZoneMinderStorage" Folder and get permissions to acces. I also can delete Files or create new one. Fine until i try to delete the 2 empty Camera slots set by Zoneminder. There popping up the mistake: 0x80070032.
I also add an Image of it. Thank you in advance.

Hi, new job and I now have responsibility for a FreeNAS device that has an 'Update Train EOL Reached' alert. /etc/version shows FreeNAS-11.2-U8. The system->update screen shows "Manifest could not be found!: Automatic update check failed. Please check system network settings".

Running 'freenas-update -v check' shows "Connection to update-master.ixsystems.com timed out".

Hi All,

I'm new to FREENAS and am running version 11.3-U3.2 on a custom machine. I'm struggling with getting home shares to work properly; it must be some sort of really stupid issue as I've spent hours on forums to try to find the solution to my problem and I found no post dealing with a similar matter...

The problem I have is that, although I can see the home shares created for each users through Windows...

I'm trying to install smbclient to mount a couple of smb shares. Software details are at the bottom.

Hello,

This seems really odd and I can't figure out what to do. I have several iocage jails running fine and then after a router reboot, Tautulli would not let me access the webui. I found that the jail couldn't start. I deleted the jail and tried to create it again but it kept having the same issue, I went down the path of upgrading from 11.2 to 11.3 U3.2 and also upgraded all my jails (thankfully most went smooth with the exception of transmission which took some time to fix). No access to shares without permessions

Hello all


I have a problem with my shares for windows. I tried to find something here, but it was not really helping or satisfied.

I want to hide some shared Windows folders from users who haven´t permission to this.

I used the GUI and the Windows Explorer to set the permissions, but it´s not working correctly.

For example

I created and user: Daniel what is in the Group admin
I created and user Production what is in the Group Company.

I have two pools on two Hard drives.

Jackett issue: could not add losslessclub indexer; SSL connection could not be established

Running FreeNAS 11.3-U3.2

I have Jackett installed as a jail (mono version 6.8.0.96). For the most part I have not encountered issues except for adding losslessclub as an indexer.
Whenever I add it, I get an error that "The SSL connection cound not be establised..."

I have tried to add this indexer on a Jackett installed on a Windows machine and it runs completely fine. Afaik, this is only an issue on my FreeNAS jail...

I'm not sure if my selction is a goog choice, mainly the motherboard:

Motherboard: Supermicro X11SSM-F or X11SSH-TF
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1220 v6
Memory: Samsung RDIMM 16GB, DDR4-2666, CL19-19-19, reg ECC
PSU: Seasonic Focus PX 550W
Case: Fractal Design Node 804

I want at least 6 SATA Ports and the TF board also has a M.2 SATA port for the system drive.

Asigra backup guide?

It seems that iX is really pimping the Asigra plugin (blog post), but I haven't seen a comprehensive guide anywhere on how to go from "basic FreeNAS system" to "Asigra installed, running, and backing up your data". Is there one that I'm missing?

From what I can see so far, the process looks like:
  • Install the plugin
  • Add storage to the plugin (where? Or does it matter?)
  • Register the plugin, requiring use of a company...

Healthy pool, I can see the datasets but ACLs are broken and I can't create new shares

Hi,

As the title shows shows I see the datasets but ACLs are broken and I can't create new shares. The pool is healthy, the path is correct. I am on FreeNAS - 11.3-U3.2 now after update, I was on the Freenas 11.3.-U2.1 when this problem appeared.

I can see my old samba shares as well:

However when I try to go into the shares and edit ACL i get this error

Dedup Special Drive?

With the intro of the special dedup drive, does this make dedup more usable now? Less reliant on memory?

We run almost a 100 terminal servers on a storage server so we are just starting to test true nas and determine if a special meta drive makes sense or maybe start u sing dedup?

we typically run 11 mirrored vdevs, 256gb ram, mirrored zil and a 2tb l2arc with 40gb network cards....

Looking for some more speed! lol
