Hi everyone,

I've wanted to see how well FreeNAS would perform in back to back tests on physical vs. virtual hosts on the same hardware for a while now and finally have all the parts together to do some initial testing. My vision is to have a single box that can do it all for my homelab and for testing with ESXi being the hypervisor and have FreeNAS be virtualized and host out a nested datastore for the rest of my ESXi VM's.

I wanted to share my results in case anyone else was curious and...

Hallo Forum,

ich habe erfolgreich auf freenas 9.10 mein System angehoben. Beim Stöbern bin ich folgendes gestoßen:
In der WEB-Gui werden mir die Jails als gesicherte Datasets angezeigt, siehe Anhang bitte.
Ich bin mir sicher, das es vor dem Update anders war. Leider finde ich keinen Hinweis auf die Bedeutung, deshalb dieser Post und an Euch die Bitte, mir dies zu erklären.

HOW TO: INSTALL NEXTCLOUD 10 ON FREEBSD JAIL

I wrote this guide primarily as a backup in case I needed to redo things over again, and decided to spruce it up and share it with others.

FreeNas 10 Beta and future updates

Hello Folks,

I'm really considering to move from Synology to FreeNAS as it allow more flexibility on soft and hardware. This is for an home use and a really simple purposes :

- File sharing
- Torrents Download
- Music streaming
- Active directory Authentication

My main concern is: Do I install the 9 release or the 10.0 Beta (I'm really attracted by the 10) ?

So is it already usable for a home lab ? And more important, will it be possible to upgrade to the final release (and Beta2)...

Guys I need desperate help.

I just wanted to reboot my FreeNAS and now it doesn't come up anymore. I have a self built FreeNAS ( https://www.ceos3c.com/2016/08/25/build-skylake-nas-freenas/ this build exactly).

When I want to boot the system, the fans run up, slow down again like normal and the front light is lighting up and after a few seconds it reboots again. I don't get any picture on my screen, no ping nothing.

Please help! My whole data is on it lol.

Hello everyone thank you so much for all the info you all have provided.
I have poured over a lot if chat rooms and fourms and after awhile it all starts to look like a foreign language to me.
My question is. I have owncloud installed and it is working great at home. Is there a way to upload my pictures away from my home network? So when I take a picture it uploads straight to my owncloud @ home. Like a guide for dummies?

Ghost disks in Hyper-V setup

My setup is Windows 2012 R2 physical machine with hyper-v running a Gen 1 VM with freenas 9.10.1-U2
I have 1 VHD for the freenas boot drive, a 32GB VHD and a 2TB physical drive directly attached to the VM
From the attached image ada0 is the 32GB VHD and 2TB is da7

When navigating to Storage -> View Disks I find that there are multiple 'ghost' entries in the list of disks.
They don't exist in the system and generally the disk size comes up as 0 however there does seem to be ghost entries of...

Can you get S.M.A.R.T info ?

Does anybody know if it's even possible to get a SMART info about a drive behind megaraid controller with esxi installed on it ?


P.S. This not about "how to monitor raid card health in esxi" this is about how to pull info from SMART about drive, like: How many TB already written or how many sector were relocated, or how many power-on hours.

Thanks to anybody who can help. If it's not possible at least I'll know to stop looking for a solution.

Buonasera a tutti, ho un problema a configurare il plugin transmission purtroppo non riesco a effettuare il download dei file.
Nonostante lo utilizzavo con successo in una debian server e conosco abbastanza il "come" funziona ,ho sempre problemi per i permessi di scrittura.
Ho seguito vari tutorial sia video (you tube ) , che nel forum ma non ne riesco a venirne a capo.
Premetto che utilizzo Freenas 9.3 , se qualcuno potrebbe darmi qualche dritta sarebbe fantastico !!

I am preparing a new environment, FreeNAS build FreeNAS-9.10.1-U2 (f045a8b)

This is running on a Dell PowerEdge T110 with a single NIC
Platform: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3430 @ 2.40GHz
Memory: 6105MB

Frequently when I come in on Monday, the server is locked up, i.e. server is running, server is ping-able, the console responds but I am unable to access from the web and the shares are not available. I am forced to reboot the machine, once I do this everything is good.

SMART not sending email

Hello, my FreeNas is not sending back email's with critical temperature notifications! I set my email on the email tab, I receive email's with alerts and daily reports, but SMART does not report the HDD temperatures.

I have it set to:
Check interval: 30
Power mode: Never
Difference: 0
Informational: 0
Critical: 37

Yesterday I connected to my FreeNas system by IPMI, and I noticed several messages like this one:

FreeNAS FTP / SMB share

I'm new to FreeNAS and running 9.10 with all updates. I have a share called backups and can see and edit it from Windows with no problems. I also have a FreePBX CentOS 6.5 system that I have setup to do FTP backups to the FreeNAS same share as Windows and both work, my problem is if I do a backup to the FTP from my centos it backups fine but I can't see it from Windows, but if I FTP from windows to it then I see the files in the same directory as the Windows share and can delete and so on....

TL;DR - What HBA would you suggest for a HP DL320G6 that will be running FreeNAS 9.10, connected to x2 MSA60s, with x12 1TB drives (24 total), with room to expand to 2TB, 3TB, and 4TB drives in the future as well as adding potentially a 3rd and 4th MSA60?

I don't have that much experience when it comes to RAID/HBA cards.

These are the 4 cards that have been recommended to me by other members thus far:

Hi everybody,

I'm sorry for my english, it's not my first language.
I know that it sounds weird but I had to "transform" my gaming rig in a NAS until I got money to buy "real freenas hardware".

I removed the graphics card, put in some HDDs, and now I got a i7 4770k, 8 GB RAM, 5 HDDs and a Corsair AX860i PSU.
The system idles at 40-45W on Windows 10 desktop. My questions are:

1) I'm really scared about using Freenas without ECC, is it safe to run it on this "temporary build"? Will I get...

Hi folks,

sorry in advance, but I read so much about that and now I can't tell right from wrong anymore o_O. Some brief advice/opinion would be highly appreciated.

After burning in my new drives, my Seagate 4TB drive (ST4000VN000-2AH166) leaves me uncertain about the Seek_Error_Rate.

Here is a short description of my problem.
I have a working environment with 2 xenserver 7.0, 2 tp-link 1GB switches, 1 freenas and a qnap.
I want to get rid of my qnap ang go for 10GB in 2 Freenas.
I bought new intel 10 GB NIC ( X540T2) .
I added the new NIC:s in xenserver, connected them to my old 1 GB switch from TP-Link (TL-SG2216) and it works fine.
Now my new switch from D-link arrives and my problem starts.
I configure the switches and when i try to create new SR in xencenter i can...
