HELP! Upgrade from FreeNAS 11.3-U5 to TrueNAS 12.0-U2.1, attempted to upgrade GELI encrypted pool, it failed. Cannot unlock nor import pool

Hello fellow NAS'ers!

Three days ago I upgraded from FreeNAS 11.3-U5 to TrueNAS 12.0-U2.1 and attempted to upgrade the GELI-encrypted pool.
The OS upgrade was successful. So, I proceeded to also upgrade the raidz2-0 pool.
I do not recall there being a problem with the pool's upgrade. I do recall that I was able unlock the pool at least once and resolved an issue with a jail\iocage.

A few reboots later, unrelated to the iocage problem, I found myself with a pool that I could not...

Hello,

I've just installed a new server (Dell R640, dual Xeon Gold 12 core, 64GB RAM) with the latest Truenas (TrueNAS-12.0-U2.1) and am getting it all set up.

Everything is pretty much set at defaults at the moment.

Everything works great, but I've run into a curious case of high latency on the local ethernet ports and even the localhost interface and it's driving me a bit silly now.

This server has an Intel X550 quad-port 10G card in it and it's hooked up to a Dell 10G switch.

I have a performance problem...
The NAS in question is not my personal system (from my signature) so here are some details:
The system chassis is a Supermicro "SSG-6049P-E1CR60L" with sixty 12TB drives.
The system is running TrueNAS-12.0-U2.1 and has been upgraded to 256GB of RAM.
CPU is a pair of Xeon Gold 5222s, but CUP utilization never goes over 50% and only for a few seconds at a time.
The storage pool is configured into 10 RAIDz2 vdevs (6 drives each) and is about 65% filled.

emby plugin - no playback error

I'm a freenas novice who just updated to 11.2 (no problems) and thought that I'd install my first plugin ever (like the new interface). I installed the emby plugin, set mount points, and defined the emby tv and movie libraries. At the emby web interface I selected a tv show and got the following message: "Playback error, No compatible streams are currently available." Is this a permissions problem?? A ffmpeg problem?? Or some other direction?

Can't install Transmission plugin

Hi guys

I'm trying to Install Transmission via the plugin section, but I keep getting this error.

Error: HTTPConnectionPool(host='download.freebsd.org', port=80): Max retries exceeded with url: /ftp/releases/amd64 (Caused by NewConnectionError('< urllib3.connection.HTTPConnection object at 0x83db00760 >: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno 8] Name does not resolve'))

Anyone experiencing something similar?

Moving iocage jails to new pool

After looking in multiple location to find all the information I needed on how to move a my jails to a new pool, I succeeded, and decided to write this guide in case anyone else is struggling with how to do this. This was done on FreeNAS 11.3u5.

The two locations I will be referencing are:

/mnt/OLD/iocage (the current location of the jail)
/mnt/NEW/iocage (the desired location of the jail)

OLD and NEW are whatever pool names you create

Make sure to note what release your jail is...

Setting up a virtual machine - WIN10 and have successfully loaded the OS and am able to login etc.. however, can not access the internet. While the device manager in windows shows the network card I can not get it to connect.. Any suggestions?

Hi all,

First time poster, very new to TrueNAS, and should probably get a couple things out of the way:
  1. I'm familiar with FreeBSD/*nixes and the command line in general, but I'm not too experienced with more complex system administration.
  2. My hardware (below) is definitely not a recommended configuration, because a) I was trying to put something together using (mostly) parts I already had handy and b) the silicon shortage seems to be making all the "better" equipment rather...

Transmission Not Downloading

I've had transmission in a jail work but have not used it in a while. After Sonarr transfer to request to transmission I get downloading from 0 of 0 peers and the download never starts. Under network settings it says my listening port is closed. My firewall is PFSense and I have a port foward for the transmission port to forward to the FN transmission jail. I using openvpn in the jail and it's showing an I other than my WAN when I issue curl ident.me

Showing drives of different sizes when all drives are 1Tb

Hello,

I am having issues with drives showing up as different sizes when they are all the same. How do I fix this, will it effect capacity, and will it effect the hot spare. These are all mixed hard drives but all show 931.51 in Windows 10. This is why I have included a hot spare.

My thoughts are that because some drives are connected through a SAS card and others are connected through usb, they show as different capacities in TrueNAS.

I am a former Techus NAS owner with 5x1GB WD Gold drives using RAID 5 (technically, I still have it :wink:). I hadn't seen the Dell article in 2009 declaring RAID 5 "dead". I'm planning to make some changes to my existing pool structure to give myself some much needed extra space, and am looking for some validation in the steps I think I need to follow! The high-level plan is to increase the number of drives in my pool from six to eight by destroying the original pool and rebuilding with some extra drives I have. As part of that, I plan to move the data from my existing pool to a temporarily created pool in the same server before moving it back.

I wonder if anyone can help with this strange fault I've been having with Freenas 11.3-U5. I've attached a screenshot of what happens around 1 in every 5 reboots. I've been trying to figure this out for about 2 weeks now and guess I spent about 50 hours trying to find hardware faults, including multiple passes of Memtest with ECC enabled and disabled. Needless to say, I can't find anything so far.

Here's my hardware:

1 x Supermicro H8SML-7F motherboard
1 x AMD FX-6300 CPU
4 x Kingston 8GB...

Hi all,

I just read that "TrueNAS replaced GELI encryption with ZFS native cryptography in the version 12.0 release".

Can anyone explain to me what that means for a GELI encrypted system when updating to TrueNAS 12 (Core)?

I am trying to setup a new server, but maybe I am missing something obvious... If I have (12) 6TB disks... That's 72TB RAW... Run in RAIDZ-2, that should end up with 60TB, minus a little for overhead, right? TrueNAS calculates out 54TB during the creation process, but when the pool creation is finished, I end up with 48TB, which is the same as what the RAIDZ-3 calculates out... But if I do a RAIDZ-3 pool, I end up with a 46TB pool. Now I am unsure about what kind of setup I should be...

Due to my apartment being small, and for practical reasons, my NAS is located just 3ft/90cm from my head when I sit at my desk. The NAS chassis is a Fractal Design Node 304, and for the past ~6 years I've had 6x 4TB WD Red drives in it (WD40EFRX). It's been working fine, and I haven't heard anything from the NAS when the disks have been idle.

I recently switched to 2x 18TB WD Ultrastar DC HC550 drives. Noise levels were a big concern when choosing disks, and comparing the spec sheets for...

Hello everybody!

I am having this strange-looking "?" floating above my head that only true misunderstanding of Samba permissions can produce – maybe you can help me changing it to "!"? :smile:

On my TrueNAS Core, I have an SMB share I want to give access to a group of users in order to let them share files.

The users are smb_one, smb_two and so on (currently just testing, as you might imagine).
They are all members in the auxiliary smb_users...

Smart errors, replace disk?

Hello!

I'm fairly new to this but I'll give it a try.
I've got 4x3tb drives running in raidz1.

So, after my latest extended offline smart test I've got some errors. (8 Offline uncorrectable sectors)
Does this mean it's time to replace the disk? I've got one already on the way if this is the case.

smartctl -a /dev/ada3 gives me this.

FreeNas API v2: Authenticate with Generated Token

Anybody know how to use the Generated Token to Authenticate on FreeNas v2 API? I could not find a way to supply a Token with the SwaggerUI so I was unable to test any of those APIs using those. The token looks like an OAuth2 token: Eg: `j9clUTu9UUq1VEDdJD0UnfqA7WvuMb9ZfsBMaCXubkD9ekly8Inan6jwAAlCvXzY` which is normally used with a `Bearer` keyword, but i keep running into 401 unauthorized.

As an example, I am trying to access `http://<freenashostip>/api/v2.0/user`. If I use root/password...

Hi Everyone,

I'm playing around with the new API version 2.0 and have some trouble, when it comes to fetch information from a not top level dataset.

I try to use the following curl command to get responses:
