Seriously lucked out!!

Hi there, happy to be joining the community.

So I'm just putting this here as a major piece of luck and might save another member hassle with drive failure.
I made 2 mistakes after reading an article recently stating you could expand storage with old drives. Sooooo I bought a 4tb enterprise drive off Fleabay 2nd hand.
That's mistake number 1
I ran the drive in my nas for a week to "run in" and perform smart tests. All good.
Then I made my 2nd mistake. I added it to my pool as a stipe (no...

Wrong CPU temperature is being reported

The CPU-temperature reported in FreeNAS is extremely low, around 10c when the ambient is around 23c with an air cooler. So it can't be correct. Also when I put the CPU under load the temperature drops to 0 as you can see in this graph.

Anyone know why this happens and if I can fix it so I can get the temperature reported correctly?

Hey guys,

I recently started a project to convert my synology NAS to a trueNAS server. I bought all the hardware and was setting up ESXI and encountered an issue and i'm not sure if its me or the hardware.

When i first started, i connected to the mobo with IPMI no problem. i updated the bios, could KVM, and everythign seemed to be working. Then, after restarting the server when trying to install ESXI, i couldnt KVM anymore and the status LEDs on the mobo wouldnt show any status, they were...

Updating / Migrating Syncthing Plugin

I have been waiting to upgrade my FreeNAS from 11.3-U5 to TrueNAS.

When I finally do the upgrade, I'm assuming that it will trash the Syncthing plugin.

Is there a way to backup/restore the configuration so that I can just reinstall the plugin and reload the configuration?

Also is there a way to upgrade the version of Syncthing between jail upgrades?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

recommendation for at least 3 port - 5 GBit Ethernet / RJ45 switch, fanless / low noise

Hello,

I would like to buy a switch (can be unmanaged) with no fan / or very low noise.

It should have at least 3 ports - 5 GBit Ethernet / RJ45 capable.

Checking by myself I do not see too many of those, it's more Multi Gigabit ports which are on offer:

Netgear MS510TX-100

looks interesting, but even the more expensive version featuring the controlled fan is too loud according to some users.

And changing the fans voids the warranty...

Running a Minecraft Server in a Jail, unable to start it outside of the Shell.

I am pretty new to TrueNAS, and by pretty new I mean I had never used it once before yesterday. I built a NAS for a Plex Server and a Minecraft Server, and I've managed to get the Plex Server setup no problem with the plugin. I was originally using the MineOS plugin for the Server, but I found it very limiting and slow, so I tried finding a new way to do it.

I followed this video exactly to install a Server in a Jail:

Second (multiple) iSCSI connection from the same ESXi host to the same FreeNAS, problem

Plan to upgrade to TrueNAS soon. For iSCSI, I guess, this should make no difference.

Wasted several hours trying to establish a second iSCSI connection from the same ESXi host to a new ZVOL (zvol2) hosted by the same FreeNAS 11.3 server for my homelab. The Authentication method is Mutual CHAP which works fine for the first ZVOL (zvol1).

On Freenas I did:
- create zvol2
- Portals: created new (#2) with: Mutual CHAP, same Discovery Auth Group as zvol1, same IP, port: 3261 (zvol1 is 3260)

Need NFS Advice

Good day,

Lately, I've been having real trouble with copying files to my TrueNAS shares. I've read all about the usual troubleshooting paths (iperf, network cards), but this seems different.

I have Linux mint mounting NFS shares created on TrueNAS.

Lately, file copies seem to stall and I don't know if it's TrueNAS or Mint causing the problem. If I watch with System Monitor, I can see network transfers occurring, but the progress stops for sometimes long periods. It seems to go in...

Installation CD boot issue

Hello,

i'm trying to install the FreeNAS-11.3-U5 from CD. My system uses 120 GB SSD and external USB DVD drive. But after i start from the CD the installation will be halted before the "Shark Menu" with following message:

Code:

I had the primary OS drive fail over the weekend and replaced it. I reloaded the OS with a fresh download of 12.0-U2.1 and after the initial login, I reloaded the config from my last backup. Everything "looked good" till I started working on the AD Shares and then all went WACKO!!
From what I can tell, it looks like winbind is the issue, but not exactly sure.

When running a few simple commands...

# wbinfo -u
could not obtain winbind interface details: WBC_ERR_WINBIND_NOT_AVAILABLE

FreeNAS 11.3 Config File Size

In saving my config file thru the WebGUI the size has been 24.1MB. In he past the .db files were much smaller.

When attempting to use these config files to upload config, the system says it is over 10MB and will not upload.

Does anyone know why this is occurring or how to make the config files smaller?

firmware update for SAS9210-8i

I hope I'm on the right thread here: I recently upgraded my MB, the new build is running well, not perfect but I'm working on that. I am using a supermicro X10SLM -F MB with Xeon E3-1230 v.3 CPU, 32Gb ECC RAM with 8x4 Tb HDD and 2x120Gb SSD as mirrored boot drives. This is a new (to me) MB using an LSI 9210-8i controller card, (firmware v. 20.00.02.00 BIOS v.07.39.00.00) from another MB I scavenged. The BIOS and firmware for the X10SLM is up to date, (BIOS v.3.3, firmware revision 03.88...
