Drive Replacement

I am trying to replace a dead drive, however when I try to do this I keep getting "member disk required" even though I have selected the new disk. I am able to create a new pool with the disk I entered so the disk is visible to the system.

First Build TrueNAS Core Low Power&Noise

Hello everyone!
I have been following this forum for a few months and want to make the jump into the home server.

I am trying to create my first build through what I read on the internet but the more I read the less I know.

I want to create a mini-ITX server with a maximum of 6 HDDs in the future. The purpose will be just for Plex 2 users to transcode at maximum, *Arr things, Nextcloud, Torrent, and Debian VM for Docker containers. As this was to be a lower noise and power consumption...

Greetings All
I'm running latest release of TrueNAS Scale Version 22.02-RC.2 which is Debian 11 based.
lspci | grep Mellanox
0b:00.0 Network controller: Mellanox Technologies MT27500 Family [ConnectX-3]
Downloaded Debian 10.9 Driver from
but installing it shows it is only for 10.9
I'm using the same model on TrueNAS Core as 40GbEthernet "Not IB" & it is working fine no issues
any idea how to configure it

Thanks in advance

I have older FreeNAS 9.3 at home with 2 data disks in ZFS pool.
One disk failed and I remove it from pc.
Unfortunately then I made offline and detach failed disk with zpool and now I have this situation.

Slow read speed on iSCSI

I got my first nas recently and I'm getting quite a lot slower read speeds than write speeds. First I bought a u/utp cable, getting 6 mb/s sequential read but 300-700 write. I connected it with a 1.5m cat6a cable included with the TX401 and got 200 read. Then I bought an S/FTP cable after someone said it might be interference (my ethernet cable is next to the extension cord. Now I get around 200 read but still, 700 write. Separating the cables so they aren't remotely close only gives a small...

SCALE: Connection refused to docker containers from localhost only

$

I have created a docker registry container in order to be able to deploy customer containers on my new TrueNAS SCALE server.

The container is configured to forward host port 15000 to container port 5000. This works fine to make the registry accessible to other hosts on my network -- I was able to push an image from my laptop just fine.

But when I log into TrueNAS and try to pull the image so I can deploy it, I get a connection refused error. This also occurs when trying curl...

IBM DS3524

I have a SAS9207-8e adapter and an IBM DS3524 disk shelf.

The LSI adapter has been flashed to IT mode so it’s running as a HBA.

My question is the DS3524 compatible with the LSI controller?

I’ve been able to configure two arrays on the DS3524 and been able to access them, they show up and writes work fine.

Additionally is there a way to configure the DS3524 so it truly acts as a pass through like a Netapp DS4243 with direct access to the drives.

nginx reverse proxy only redirecting when a port is specified

Hi all,

I have configured nginx in a jail with all the proper certificates and configuration files. Ngnix redirects all http requests to https.

The issue I'm having is that I can only seem to redirect to urls that have ports specified.

For example, in my vdomain config file, proxy_pass http://192.168.0.100; will not redirect to my apps web ui from outside my network. However, on my local network, http://192.168.0.100 redirects properly. For another app though, proxy_pass...

Re-purposing SAN based on Supermicro

$

I currently have two SAN from a vendor that has all but abandoned their clients (support wise). I'll be replacing them with something else for production, however the hardware is fantastic. They are Supermicro based dual controller units, (similar, not exactly this one linked) with SSDs and I really want to re-purpose them. Is it possible to use TrueNAS for this? I'm assuming yes for a single controller and disk, but how about dual controller?!

all interfaces allocated to LAGG or vlan

While trying to setup LAGG at the terminal, I get the message that "all interfaces are already part of LAGG or vlan." How do I correct this? All of the interfaces are un-assigned when I try to setup up the LAGG. I'm not seeing anything in the forum that seems to reference this error.

Thanks,

Questions about SMB "Alternate Data Streams" (don't care for them, don't need them)

$

If no Mac computers will ever communicate with my TrueNAS server, is there any risk or harm in completely disabling "Enable Alternate Data Streams" for all of my SMB shares?

They're incompatible with Linux, and I have no need for them in Windows. (Unless there's something "magical" about them in which others found a practical benefit?)

Questions that come to mind:
  • Is there any risk if I download a file from the internet directly to an SMB share while using...

Highly Unstable after 'upgrade' to TrueNAS 12 RC1

$

Hi folks,

I 'upgraded' my FreeNAS 11.3 U5 to TrueNAS Core 12 RC1 two days ago. Since then the system has become wildly unstable. I have expereinced:

1. Whole system hangs (3 times).
2. VM hangs (all 4 VMs running on the system go unresponsive via network or serial). When trying to reboot them through the UI, the TrueNAS middleware hung, then the whole system becomes unresponsive and requires a hard-reboot. This has happened twice.

Can someone help me understand what's happening? The...

How to boot Supermicro X9SCM-F with all SATA ports used for pool?

It seems that Supermicro X9SCM-F does not support booting from PCIe NVMe drive. I went through TrueNAS installation, installer correctly detected NVMe drive in PCIe slot and installed OS there. However, after reboot, I don't have BIOS option to boot from that drive.

I searched over forums and it seems that I'm out of luck. There are mentions that BIOS modding is required but I'm unable to tell for sure if that will allow the board to boot TrueNAS from this drive as in those threads Windows...
