Hello all,

I've been running TrueNAS in various incarnations for over 10 years, and I have finally run into a strange data loss issue that I could really use some help with. Today, I upgraded from SCALE 22.02.0 to SCALE 22.02.0.1. After the reboot, my NAS took over 15 minutes to come back up. It sat at "A start job is running for Import ZFS pools" for the full 15m8s. [SCALE] Mass cleanup/removal of ix-applications snapshots solution required

As I've explained in another post/thread here, there is an issue with snapshots being created for ix-applications dataset and its child datasets. I mean in under a year with moderate to light use, my TrueNAS Scale server has over 47 thousand snapshots created. Yeah, you read that right - it's 47502 snapshots, out of which the boot pool snapshots taken on upgrade/update account for 5 entries and there's roughly 48 snapshots correctly managed through the Data Protection functionality...

What NVMe is best for a fusion pool?

I've been thinking about how to set up a fusion pool, as I've discussed in my last thread where I asked about PCIe adapters. My conclusion there was to wait, but I'm now reconsidering because if I'll want to do it anyway later, I'll get better results if I bite the bullet now than if I add it when the metadata has already been written to the pool because ZFS won't move it all to my shiny new special vdev.

Used space up to 100% single zvol in the pool

Hey everyone,
it seems like I'm having some troubles which I can't sort out myself.

Hardware:
  • Truenas Mini X+
  • 5x 6TB in RAID-Z2
  • Single VDEV with all 5 drives
Setup:
  • single pool with this one VDEV
  • one ZVOL used as iSCSI to a Windows server
  • snapshots enabled
When I logged in to increase the size of the ZVOL (currently 6TB) to 7TB I was presented with 99% usage of the pool. This pool has only this one ZVOL and nothing else. There were few hundred snapshots...

How can i check if my disk is idle?

I have set the power management for my toshiba hdds to 64 (spindown, medium power usge). How can i check, if my disks go to standy? The system is basically only used by me/some cron jobs about 3 times per day. What would be the best power setting? Its basically unneccessary to keep the hdd spinning whole day...

From what I can see this is Kubernetes but I have not configured any functions on SCALE at all except an empty smb share.
I don't find anything about Kubernetes in GUI at all, no way to turn it off and no reason for it to be there in the first place?

Hello!

There is a problem - Doesn't show users and groups from FreeNAS 12.0 U8 in security tab under Windows(7/10).

Found a dependency.
After disconnecting the connection (net use /delete *), it works for about two minutes, and then access is lost. Even after authorization does not show groups and users. As soon as I use the "net use /delete *" command again, it will work again for a couple of minutes.

Salve a tutti ho la necessità di utilizzare il Plex media server su due schede di rete diverse con indirizzi ip differenti tipo 192.168.100.x/24 sulla scheda A e 192.168.50.xx/24 sulla scheda B.

Ho già configurato le schede di rete del nas su ip diversi e accedo alla web console del nas da entrambe le reti e fino a qui tutto ok.

Test for a new NAS - Recommendations

Hello,

I set up my NAS last week. I am now in the testing period.
I have already done some memtest (with memtest86+), about 24 hours of testing without error.

For the disks, I saw that there was the solnet-array-test from @jgreco.

What do you recommend for the other tests?

- For CPU Stress?
- For disks?
- Other things?

And how long should the tests be run (I did see the document that says 1000h of recommended tests, but as a private person I find that way too...

Strange behaviour disc status

Hi,

Hope someone can point me to the right direction. For some reason I have a disc (da21) that shows UNAVAIL and whatever I try, it wont go online. I also did a SMART test and this returns a succesful test. Additionally, this same disc shows up twice in both spare location and there it shows the status ONLINE.

I have attached the screenshots of the pool disc status.

TrueNAS SCALE 22.02.0.1 does not boot after mirrored boot-pool disk failure

One of two mirrored disks of the boot-pool failed. The system remained functional in degraded mode. The faulty drive was removed.

After a controlled restart, the system won’t boot up anymore and remains on grub prompt (grub rescue).

I would appreciate any help to bring the system back to life without reinstalling Scale?

Okay, so this took awhile to figure out, and I want to thank @waqarahmed for giving me the command that ultimately got my Quick Sync working in TrueNAS SCALE and let me pass it through to my Apps.

This post does not apply for those with nvidia cards. It only applies to those of us who intentionally purchased an Intel CPU with "Quick Sync Video" (QSV) for transcoding purposes.

Two Tanks: Plugins only start up after reboot on one Tank

Hello everyone,

When I made my Truenas core setup about 1 year and 6 months ago, I used two Tanks. One for X and the other for Y data. I did this so I could keep data from X completely separate from data Y.

However this has become a pain when you have plugins installed on each Tank. If I select Tank 1 and reboot the Truenas sever Tank1's plugs will start up after reboot. Then I have to switch to the other Tank to then manually start up those Plugins.

Configure Advanced Bridge Options (spanning tree, etc)

I have bridge setup on TrueNAS SCALE with two 10gig NICs attached. I'm looking for a way to disable STP, but I don't see a way to do this.

In other Debian installs, I would run the command "brctl stp br0 off" in order to disable STP.

brctl command is unavailable on TrueNAS SCALE and I don't see an easy way to install it.

Any ideas?

Hi

Anyone encountered this issue?

I have just installed TrueNAS SCALE 22.02.0.1 (latest one as of last week) for the first time, and configurations went well. I set up 6 nodes of TrueNAS SCALE with a full /etc/hosts file which I edited with the vi editor. But the /etc/hosts file resets to default (empties all my entries) after every reboot. No real harm except being a hassle.

It seems like there are lot of guides here on installing Nextcloud, and a number of people reporting problems with many of them. So, I figured, why not write another one? The difference between this method and the others is that this method employs a script to create the jail, install all the relevant packages, and configure them. My thought/hope is that by scripting the installation and setup, a lot of the PEBCAK-type errors that come up in such a complex installation can be avoided...

Mounting samba share to plex on truenas

hi there,

need a little help/advice

so I've got TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.0.1 up and running and added plex to it
Im needed to mount some other shares of my net work as I've got a number of SMB shares on Netgear nas devices

I looked at the default sudo mkdir /media/Plex .... sudo mount -a etc but doing this in shell isn't saved so is dropped on restart so isn't ideal.

I've checked around the forum and found stuff about "jail" samba mounts but is that maybe part of core only or is it hidden...

Server timezone keeps resetting

Whenever i'm changing the time zone of my machine to Asia/Kolkata (which is where i live) and i have a cron job that shuts it down every night but the time zone keeps resetting to america/los angeles when i save the changes and refresh the page. Any suggestions?
