Hello,
I am very new to TrueNAS and just did the same thing the person on this thread did.

[solved] How to limit max arc size on TrueNAS SCALE?

I found an option on the misc menu, but that seems to relate to the way FreeBSD used to do it, I think ZFs on Linus is a different method, since Every reboot the system files reset I don't know where I can configure an ARC size limit. A little documentation for the BETA at least would be nice.

Not able to create jail and install plugins in China

I recently upgraded from freenas to truenas with clean install not upgrade method as it did not work for me.

I am currently in Shanghai, China. So, is it because of the location it does not fetch any details from the truenas server. I tried to install simple plugin first but it got stuck and 20-50% which showed not able to create jail, and failed to fetch too. After doing some online search I have tried to do iocage fetch from shell command and through ssh terminal both are not able to...

Is .vm_cache needed in a Scale install?

As part of my app re-installation odyssey (long story) I am cleaning up any old folders/files I can find.

On my main pool, I have a ".vm_cache" folder. But, I'm not using any VM. It contains "boot2docker", "initrd" and "vmlinuz64".

I THINK that is a remnant from a previous TrueNAS I was running. But, don't want to delete anything I actually need. Can anyone confirm if I can safely delete that folder?

If not, is there a way to move VM Cache to my SSD pool?

Thank you.

NIC issue

Hi everyone, I'm a novice at best so please be gentle.

I saw that my onboard NIC was only doing 100Mbps so i figured I'd buy a pci-e NIC and see if that makes a difference.
At first all was fine tho after some tinkering I ended up deleting the NIC (pcie) in the webinterface and haven't been able to find it since.

I've reseated it in other slots and back in the same, no dice. Have restored the server to defaults, no change either.

To double check i hadnt shorted the NIC i put it in my...

DDNS not working with freedns.afraid.org

Help speed up my Dell C6220 hypervisors

I'm using three nodes of a Dell PowerEdge C6220 unit as a Proxmox VE cluster (which uses my TrueNAS CORE box for some of its storage, hence a tenuous connection to this forum). ISOs and some low-demand VM disk images are stored on the TrueNAS server, but most of the live disk images are stored on a Ceph pool consisting of three, 2TB Samsung EVO 860 SSDs, one in each node. The nodes are linked together via 10 Gb fiber with Chelsio T420 cards. And while performance is a whole lot better...

Strange Bay Mapping with 9211-8i

Hello

I recently build a new storage server with TrueNAS Scale which works great so far.
But I have a strange problem with the mapping of the disks to their physical slots.
All disks are shown in the same enclosure/slot. It also changes from time to time.
I've seen 2/56 and 2/8 so far.

This is not really a big problem, because all works so far.
But the IPMI (HP iLO) shows some strange Mapping too, and I can't use sas2ircu to flash the bay LEDs.

Are there some settings to change this...

Is it time for replace, help needed

Hello guys,
I'm using TrueNAS last two years, so I can say I'm quite new on this system. Few weeks ago I noticed that two of the disks started showing some errors on read status, because of this the pool goes to unhealthy state, but if I reboot it again goes to healthy.

I know that ZFS will try to self-heal the filesystem, but I'm not sure how to handle this situation.
For instance, in the past I used QNAP and when there is a issue with the disk, it simply mark it as offline...

Understanding ZFS Replication ... not all data synced?

I have setup a ZFS Replication of 2 datasets on my NVMe storage to my HDD ZFS array - on the same Truenas Host.

I backup the following datasets with all child datasets:

nvme1 > docker
nvme1 > exchange

to the following destination

hdd1 > backup > truenas > docker
hdd1 > backup > truenas > exchange

Now this is scheduled to run weekly and all seems fine in the GUI:

When I now check the contents of the datasets (hdd1 > backup > truenas > docker) it is not the...

Updating Nextcloud

Hello,

I'm currently running version23 of nextcloud and there is a small update release and it has brought up how should I update. Should I go through the Nextcloud GUI or update from the truenas plugin screen. Is one better than the other or is one more reliable or I shouldn't do one.

Nextcloud was installed through a plug in, In December last year have had no issues since it has started I just like to keep things up to date.

Thank you for your sujestions and responses.

SLOG benchmarking and finding the best SLOG

I'd like to take a few minutes to talk about SLOG devices and what makes good ones versus bad ones. I have no doubt that this will be a controversial topic since this is not well understood by many people. In short, there's 3 things that you need for a "great" SLOG:

1. Fast throughput
2. Long lifespan with regards to 100% write workloads
3. Fast cache flushes

SLOG workloads are a bit unique. So what goes into an SLOG?

Only sync writes will actually go to an SLOG. A sync write is a...

How to set up ddns for cloudflare

Hello everyone

Sorry, my English is not good, I use machine translation.

I did not find the provider of cloudflare in the built-in ddns service of the system.

I tried to install ddclient using apt, but all this will be lost after the system update.
I tried to use docker to run ddclient, but I could not get the network card information.

Does anyone recommend a good way to achieve my goal?

Read / write / checksum errors not caused by storage device

I'm kind of at my whit's end with this issue.
I keep getting various read / write / checksum errors on the drive hooked up to one of my SATA ports. I have replaced the HDD with one that works for sure, the SATA cable as well and the FFC cable + adapter that attaches this drive to the motherboard. It's an odd setup with a laptop that requires this adapter to attach additional storage.

Does anyone have some experience diagnosing SATA signal integrity issues? For all I know both the FFC +...

Middlewared having a memory leak in 22.02.0?

The question is how much memory should the middlewared normally consume. Because right now it feels like it's leaking memory to me.

My server has 16 gigs of RAM and currently runs TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.0.

As I'm writing this my current uptime is 1 day 15:42. Before this reboot my uptime was pretty close to 16 days. And at the end of it middlewared was using close to 35% of the memory in htop and the system was telling me that it was running out of memory. So I rebooted it.

Now after the...

Scripts to report SMART, ZPool and UPS status, HDD/CPU T°, HDD identification and backup the config

I wanted to share my scripts because I think I'm not the only one who wants to monitor his FreeNAS server a bit more closely and in a more personalized way than the automatic nightly emails would do.

Please note that you're the only one responsible of what you do in the CLI so don't blame me if you mess up your system.

This post is segmented like this:
  • SMART report email
  • ZPool report email
  • UPS report email
  • Display CPU and HDD temperatures
  • Display drives identification...
